Yan Shvartzshnaider is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Lassonde School of Engineering at York University, where he leads the Privacy Rhythm research lab.

Prior to York, he was an Assistant Professor/Faculty Fellow in the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at NYU, affiliated with Analysis of Computer Systems (ACSys) and Open Networks and Big Data Lab groups. He was also a visiting research associate at Digital Life Initiative in Cornell Tech and at the Center for Information Technology Policy.

Yan received his Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Sydney, Australia. His research focuses on sociotechnical systems that incorporate a socially meaningful conception of privacy which meets peoples' expectations and is ethically defensible.

Yan is passionate about solving fundamental problems that have real-world impact as well as fascinated by the commercial side of transferring ideas into viable business propositions.
